I came back last month after a 28 day trip riding around Bali. Though I had an IDL and an Australian drivers license endorsed for motorcycles, I was not pulled over once.
The current campaign by the polisi is to try to enforce the law about wearing a helm (helmet). To this end, they erect large tents and banners at intersections with several polisi cars and motorcycles stopping all motorcyclists not wearing helmets.
All the locals know of the position of these roadblocks. When I was carrying a local on the pillion seat, the local asked me to stop well before the roadblock and dismounted. I rode through the roadblock wearing a helmet and met up with the the local on the other side of the roadblock, who remounted and we continued on our way.
