be respectful of Balinese and Indonesian culture and custom, don't walk the streets with a beer in your hand an bare chested in a restaurant, don't think of temples and culture as 'stuff', enjoy yourself, have a drink on the beach at sunset, eat at some great restaurants, go white water rafting, buggy riding, surfing, shopping, hire a driver and get out of Kuta, don't drive motorcycles half inebriated without a helmet,go to some clubs and stay safe, :)
The police will not be awful unless you give them just cause.
99% of people are NOT dodgey, there is always an exception trying to get more money out of you, Don't dwell on it,it's usually a minor amount.

Some great temples and sites are outside of Kuta so get a Bali guide and have a bit of a read. :)
