I would try to stay in Coolangatta as Surfers Paradise is too far away about 25 to 40 min depending on traffic also it would cost about $50 for a taxi.
Air Asia crew stay at Twin towns resort and there are a nember of good hotels around the area just look up Last minit or what if also check with a travel agent as there are good specials about at the momment.
Just my advice is look close by the airport for accomadation traffic can be realy bad commeing from Surfers to the Airport .
