Are you sure you are not mixing Malarone with Lariam? The mefloquine has really got a bad reputation and Malarone is endorsed by most travel doctors I know to be a lot better when it comes to reported side effects. Problems are to my knowledge mostly physical reactions (nausea, vomiting, etc) and not psychiatric ones (disclaimer: IANAD).
