I put short longs on, or long shorts, the trakki type which are a little warmer on the plane. I take a really light spray jacket to put over a nice singlet top and wear runners.
When nearing Bali, I take the runners off and into the thongs. Then put shorts on, like the light summer shorts.
Then you're ready for the heat which hits you when you get off the plane.
