for telling them your plans. When I was younger and travelling there was a lot of terrorism going on, I got knocked over by an explosion once, but was uninjured (if not a bit deaf). Back then there was no internet, and calls home were once a month if that.

I'm not saying to be irresponsible, but you're an adult - you are here and now and likely in a better position to guage the situation for yourself. Don't let this culture of fear that we live in today stop you from having what could be an experience of a lifetime. You only live once - and you are only young once. Seize the day I say.
