we did this with 2 kids (14 and 10) and to be honest they rode on their own the whole way - sometimes ahead and sometimes behind. We had a large group but there was always one guide in the front and one in the back - no way that anyone could get left behind that day. This was last month and we thought it was an excellent day. I did worry about the kids but they had a ball - our son fell off and had a grazed knee. Neither my husband or I were there when he fell off but the guide helped him and fixed it. I did feel guilty that I wasn't with them but they were happy on their own.
