Just got back from 1 week at Grand Istana Rama. Usually stay elsewhere but no children this time so chose somewhere different.
For the price my husband and I paid we were extremely pleased. We had a "very basic room" (the smallest cheapest) but it was all clean and worked. The brekkies were excellent and fresh. The pool area and gardens were immaculate and clean and tidy and the ground, pool and restaurant staff very friendly. The garden villas looked like they would be great. The location is great, and lovely having brekkie watching Kuta surf. Beers and drinks at pool expensive, and we didn't eat any meals other than brekkie at restaurant. Found too many great cheap eats & beers down Poppies I & II. Depending on kids ages its not too far to walk to Legian markets or Kuta markets. It didn't have many Aussies in this hotel, the first time we have been in the minority and there were no pool lounge hogs. Did wish we had taken the pool noodles over to float around on though.
Overall we thought it very good and would definitely stay there again especially if older crowd. Normally we have 3 youngish kids with us and probably Bali Garden Hotel (our usual) is better for kids, as its pool area and grounds are bigger and more open. Hope you enjoy. If you need to know anything more ask while it is still fresh in my mind. Have a wonderful time and you will still love it after 20years. We did the first time we went back again.
