Can relate to arriving in places at that early in the morning.
First time was Sumgai Penuh to Bengkulu- last bus stop Thank God and a man selling sweet bean breakfast- bought breakfast from my Indonesian friend, two bus drivers and went into the city at light in becak.
second time much to my disgust Bengkulu to Painan West Sumatra at 4am. Told my Indonesian friend to get the bus driver to drop us off somewhere safe-which was the only open warung in the empty market.
Feasted on all sorts of foods waiting for the sun to come up.
Ended up staying in a small beach house by the water- their restaurant supports are in the water looking out to a special island called Cingkuk we were to stay overnight on a few days later.
