I agree that guy in the petshop was a sicko. But I don't see what's wrong with a shop in Indonesia being full of Indonesians. Also I have to say that in general department shop assistants in Indonesia (not just Bali) can be quite unhelpful, the wages are crap ( they don't get commission like in touristy shops) and so the level is service they provide often (not always) matches this.
