PRACTICAL ADVICE FOR THE SPECIAL NEEDS TRAVELER
Be sure to share the details of your disability and special needs with Destination Asia so that we can take every step to plan the logistics and meet and special requirements for your visit.
Make sure you have travel insurance.
Bring along a medical summary of your particular condition and telephone numbers for your physician should you require a medical consultation during your stay in Bali.
Bring along copies of prescriptions for medications and eye glasses.
Advise the airline when making reservations advising them that you are a special needs traveller so that they can make suitable allowances during the boarding and disembarkation process. If you use wheelchairs and other special equipment ask the airline at the time of booking to clarify their policy on charging/carrying personal care equipment.
Destination Asia can also provide VIP processing through the customs and immigration process.
If you have any special dietary requirements please let the airline know at the time of booking. Also, please let Destination Asia know about your special dietary needs so we can advise your hotel accordingly.
Be sure to reconfirm flight 24 - 48 hours prior to departure. When reconfirming flights, remind the airline if you are travelling with a wheelchair, asking them to be sure this is mentioned on the OSI (Other Service Indicated) line on the booking. While airlines are not allowed to seat disabled passengers on the wider emergency exit rows, consider asking for a "bulkhead seat"; if you need more leg room, or an aisle seat and close proximity to toilets.
Some medical equipment may be rented in Bali which could be an alternative to bringing such items as excess luggage. Tell us what items you need and we will advise you of availability and cost.
Make sure your wheelchair is in good working condition. You know your equipment best, so consider bringing a small supply of tools or spare parts if you think such items may be needed to keep you "rolling".
