as you can stay in losman or places that are quite smik...best to find a map on internet with the accomodation marked and the research it, most places except losman have websites. If you want to be in the thick of the nightlife then look at places in the south east of the island, if you want quiet and good beaches got for the north. There seems to be more restaurants stretching along the east coast these days. You need to book ahead for any place other than losman in peak periods.
If you google Lombok Guide they have a section on transport. The fast boats can be contacted via email. For flying (which can be cheaper) it is difficult to book outside of Indonesia but if you search archives some people recommend a couple of places / companies in Bali to contact beforehand...someone will no doubt reply with the names. No point booking transport alot in advance as the airlines often don't release schedule until about 1 month prior which sends people into panic.
