As I understand it the danger is in the unpredictability. A few years ago 2 young men (who shall remain nameless) with whom I worked and who let's say were not unfamiliar with the drug scene decided to try mushrooms in Bali from the cafe (which also shall remain nameless) famous for this in Kuta.
Luckily they went back to their hotel straight after because although one of them reckoned it was the best thing since sliced bread the other had a really "bad trip" and was literally trying to climb the walls to get away from whatever it was he was seeing. His friend put furniture behind the door to keep him in the room.
