We have stayed at and love the Alam hotels, sad you can't get into them.
I haven't stayed in any of the hotels you have mentioned but looked at them all in June they are all lovely but if it was me and I couldn't get into an Alam hotel I would go for something different and try Cedana, we don't usually stay so central but I really liked this place it has a wonderful friendly vibe about it with lush gardens, rice fields and great pools, and even though it's off Monkey Forest Rd. you would never know it.
The rooms near the salt water pool(the one with the lady statues) were the nicest I think they were deluxe family rooms we looked at.
