So after a relaxing few days around the Besakih Pool it was time to get out and about.
Our Almost Bali Virgins (first trip in 24 years) planned on splitting up... Mrs ABV to tackle the streets of Kuta and Legian with the Evil One and I while Mr ABV was off white water rafting.
First stop was Toko Central...where I was hoping to find shops overflowing with fabric, but instead fpound notions, buckles, ribbons and beads bursting out all over the place...it was amazing...and the prices were excellent. Unfortunately I was looking for fabric...so after a visit to a fabric wholesaler down the road it time for Personal shopping.
we were trying to source Big Girls Clothes - so armed with my list from the forum we chose two places to visit..Animale (which I visit most times I am in Bali) and Soul Sisters...as these came highly recommended.
For once Animale disappointed us- We felt that the styles were sack-like and were not appealing even when looked at with a sense of the avant garde in mind. We then headed over to Soul Sisters (Jl Legian near the corner of Jl Padma)and while I am a size 14/16 and could squeeze into a couple of outfits, they were far too figure hugging with all that stretch lace and synthetics for me.
My friend found it impossible to find anything appealing for her or fit her Australian Size 18 frame.
So I don't know if it was too hot to be shopping... we caught the shops at the wrong time and there wasn't the normal ranges of stock in place or the Besakih breakfasts had been too good and we had put on more kilos than we thought....but once again we stepped out without buying a thing.
So it was off to the taylors (Janako in Poppies Lane II) for the custom jacket I was in need of for work. Damien from Janako was his usual efficient self and within 10 minutes I had chosen the material, styles discussed and had been measurements taken. Then across the road to Megadisc for our first selections of DVDs.
After cold lime juice at Bagus Pub (some of the best and coldest Lime/lemon juice to be found in Kuta) we decided that enough was enough and caught the taxi back to Sanur.
Really I must be getting passed it as I am finding Kuta to be one of the last places I want to visit in Bali- its become an almost have to do thing, once per trip... i much prefer the quieterSanur side...Ubud and the smaller villages...Kuta and Legian are necessary for when i am doing my business but that is as far as my personal appreciation goes.
Back at the pool Mr ABV was relaxing with his first Bintang of the day after an amazing white water experience. With the river water low this time of year he had had a ride of his life...capsizing once in difficult conditions, exploring landscapes and caves along the way. He was thrilled with his day but amazed at how he escaped without a scratch. Now Mr ABV is quite the adventure man...an excellent long distance swimmer and used to physical exercise...but he was exhausted!
So the next two days was a mandatory low key affair. Apart from a trip to see Ketut at Tootsies Fixed Price stall in the Sindhu Beach markets and a couple of forays along the walkway the Besakih pool received a good going over.
Thursday we had decided to go over to Lembongan Island for an overnight stay. So Scoot boats were booked and a call to Putu in Oka No 7 Bungalows to book two rooms was made. Armed with little more than the absolute necessities we waitied for the Scoot Boat transport to collect us at 8.30 am...we were looking forward to some good snorkelling and a trip around the island. Little did we know that our return to Sanur would be sooner than expected....
