On the way to the volcano our driver Ketut was stopped by the police. Many cars were being stopped on the side of the road. Ketut stepped out of the car and slid 20 thousand into the cops hand, no more said he got back into the car. A bribe, the cop didnt even ask for rego or license or anything, the greasy palm was enough. Having had a bit of a laugh off we drive for about 1km...Another police roadblock!...all the same cars pull over again..this time Ketut had no money left as he had already put petrol in the car and paid 1 bribe so it was up to us tourists to save the day...give Ketut 20 thousand and again he gets out of the car and slips the cop the money...no questions, the cop even waves goodbye...a couple of kilometres up the road is kintamani...all the hired drivers are up in arms..how dare they put 2 roadblocks within 1 km!!!...the conversation was animated to say the least...suffice to say, Ketut drove us back a different way..
