Left Sydney 29/10 flying Jetstar. Received a SMS from them in the morning to say the flight would be leaving 1 hour late. Impressed by this as I didn't think they would bother for just 1 hour.
Arrived at the airport at 3.30 p.m. Checked in no problems. Flight left at 6.30 p.m. arriving at 10 p.m. We used VIP VOA. Great to walk straight through to baggage claim. Still can't believe you can get into a country without Immigration actually seeing you.
Arrived at our Hotel - The Courtyard, Legian - about 10.45 p.m. I love this Hotel. Great staff and location. Put our stuff in our room then locked the door and went to make sure our daughter had settled into her room O.K. Everything fine so back to our room. Tried to open the door but the lock wouldn't open. Tried for about 15 minutes then went to get a staff member. Two of them tried for about 10 minutes and said to us to wait in another room. Next minute we hear all this banging. Turns out the lock is stuffed and they are trying to take the door off! By this time it was about 11.30 p.m. Got the door off (after much talking, laughing(by us) and banging) so we could get our stuff and move to another room. Really tired by this stage. They said the lock would be fixed and the door back on in the morning. As we were in Bali we didn't think this would happen quite so quick but sure enough when we had finished breakfast they moved our things back into our original room.
We were in Bali this trip for our friend's daughters 3 month ceremony. We went into Denpasar the next morning with Ilou to get the gold jewellery needed for Tatha for the ceremony. Bought a gold chain and the smallest ring I've ever seen. Also bought a kabaya for the baby to wear. Totally different experience going shopping with a local.
The ceremony was on the Saturday so we were picked up at 1 p.m. to be driven to her village in Klungkung. Had been to this village before for her wedding and just love going there. Everyone makes you feel so welcome. The ceremony lasted about 1 hour and Tatha screamed the whole time. Don't blame her it was so hot! The meal was bubi guling (baby pig), chicken, rice and vegetables. I was about to put some weird black looking stuff on my plate and thought I might just ask what it was. So glad I asked. It was fried pigs blood and intestines! Quickly gave that a miss! Stopped at the local night markets in Gianyar on the way back to Legian. It was mainly food and we tried a few things that our friends bought. Mainly sweet stuff but really nice. Had a great day.
The rest of the time in Legian we just did the usual stuff... shopping eating and slacking around the pool.
Used a great driver in Legian - Wayan Sukadana.
After 7 nights our daughter went home then my husband and I moved to Tegal Sari in Ubud.
Will write about that next.
Thanks for reading.
