the currency converter shows an average between the buy and sell rate. If you want a better idea of what you will pay for rupiah, look at the BUY rate for notes somewhere like the link below.
And then rates on the street like in Poppies are generally a bit less than what the bank is giving.
The BEST place to change money in Bali (especially if you have quite a bit) is PT Central Kuta. They generally do a bit better than the bank, are efficient and honest. It is where all the locals change their money.
