have actually booked a 3 or 4 day package at a really cheap hotel and got a really cheap price for the flight as part of the package - then i just extend the dates to 10-14 days, dont use the package accommodation and book my own !!!
However with the new cheap airlines the flights by themselves are usually a little cheaper than any of the package deals although its worth keeping a look out for really cheap packages in the low season.
