I copied this info from BTF posts over time, hope it helps.

TEMPLE INFO

High on the slopes of Bali's Mount Agung sits Pura Besakih, widely referred to as the "Mother Temple" of Hinduism in Bali. Pura Besakih, is the largest of the island's 11,000 or so Hindu temples. Besakih the " Mother Temple " of Bali, is almost 1000 metres above sea level, the complex houses 30 temples, made up of 7 levels of terraces in the mountainside.
The other 2 important temples are at Uluwatu and Kintamani
All of them are fantastic to visit. There are also
other important regional temples, then, in each village there
is a temple for Life at the mountain end of village, and one
for Death at the end nearest the sea. Then, there are family
temples, temples in particular sacred places, and shrines
everywhere, including most houses.
Hope this is of some help and have a great holiday.

Two I can recommend, away from - the normal tourist haunts are Pura Batu Karu, north and a wee bit west of Denpasar, turn right at Tabanan. Not just the serene peacefulnes of the temple itself but also the drive which goes along narror roads and through little rural villages where the life of the people seems to be played out on the edge of the road a it might have been for centuries. A whole different look for today's tourist Bali.
The other is Pura Rambut Siwi way out on the south west coast, again through Tabanan but straight on to the coast at Soka Beach and just past the surfing beaches of Mediwi but short of the local capital, Negara, where the most pitiful orphanage in all of Bali is to be found. The temple sits on a cliff top with kilometer views both east and west along the black sand beaches of the coast and across the rice paddies. The sound of the wind is eerie. If you go there make sure you go down to the beach level and see the caves in the cliff face. One of these has a sacred fresh water spring trickling out of it. You will find priests down there and if you tell your driver in advance he will probably take temple garb with him and seek a blessing from them.
