I just got back on Saturday night from 2 weeks. I've been to Bali heaps of times, so will try to keep this very brief...
UBUD
Stayed the first 3 nights at Komaneka Tangayyuda in a Valley Pool Villa, which is very peaceful, staff can't do enough to help. Very romantic. Personally, I like to be closer to town, though the resort do offer a free shuttle every hour. Tried Bali Botanica for a massage - very good and reasonably priced. 3 Monkeys - good but prices for cocktails seemed a bit pricey. Murnis - seemed expensive, nice outlook. Tropical Cafe - good food and price.
LEGIAN/SEMINYAK
Stayed 9 nights at Villa Surati II and thoroughly enjoyed. Pictures are just the same as real life. Great location and Ketut (house maid) comes in each day from 8.30am to 4pm. She'll cook you breakfast if required (for just cost of ingredients) and does your washing and ironing daily - I wanted to take her home with me :-) It is managed by a NZ lady, Ainslie, who was in Bali at the same time. Please tell her Natasha recommended you.
Restaurants, new to me this time were:
Ultimos - fantastic food and prices.
Cafe Moka - great for lunch, chicken baguette and strawberry tart so good!
Warung Asia - great Thai food, very cheaply priced.
Old favourites JP's (hello Gede), Rumours, Aromas, Swells, Ku De Ta and the list goes on.
Massage/Beauty: Of course the token visit to Bodyworks. Also tried Green Eden - near the villa, 1 hour of torture :-) - just a strong massage really. Lastly, the same groups as Melasti has opened up Spa Bali across the road from Aromas. I had my acrylics done there, and although skeptical at first, was so impressed with the result. I think they were done better than my nail tech in Perth and all OPI products.

I never felt unsafe at any time. The US election was of more interest to the locals than the other incident. Being in the travel industry, I completely understand peoples concerns and think it is up to each person individually to decide what is right for them. For me I wouldn't hesitate in returning.

I hope that nothing happens in Bali. The locals need our tourism and I need my holiday next year :-)

Please feel free to post any questions.
