Hi,

Just back yesterday and managed to stay at garden view for the last time. They are demolishing it...current rumours are closing February for one year. the place has always been friendly staff and small enough to meet people round the pool have a chat and a few drinks. these days its just sad. the staff don't know whats happening. most of the usual staff have left and joined cruise ships. The ones that are left are sad, the ones over 40 have been sacked. The owner's are not telling staff much..just swan in driving a lexus and pour over new plans. There also appears to be a new investor involved.

all the previous reno's look to be demolished in the new look hotel.

Currently the cost of drinks in Bali is huge. Supply appears to be controlled now through one supplier in Jakarta and its expensive, add to that the tax of 21% and a scotch and soda at GV is around $7...mind you worse at other hotels..some up to $10.

The new place is probably going to be a mix of hotel and time share, although this is still unconfirmed.

They are ruining what was a great little hotel in a great location, but i guess you can't blame them for chasing even more of the tourist dollar...if they just drop the drink prices some of us might even be able to afford a night at the bar listening to one of the bands...just like the good old days.

Two weeks ago Bali was jumping...couldn't get a table in restaurants etc...last week no one there. Apparently lots have cancelled due to current circumstances. Huge amounts of police presence with choppers and riot squads around, but even the Balinese are worried.

Prayers to everyone in Bali in the coming days...
