We are reading a book written and illustrated by children from that area at my Indonesian class also using the text for exercises. I think it is called "The Art of Learning by Doing" or something similar. It tells the story of the building of their school which enabled children from their village to go to school for the first time. It also tells of the improvement in their nutrition and health. I bought mine from Bali Deli and a friend got hers from a bookshop in Ubud.
It's an amazing true story isn't it.
