I pay for the Visa On Arrival (VOA) with an Australian $50 note. I am usually given change in Rupiah with a receipt showing the conversion rate. The conversion rate is the same as the rate offered by the money changers at the Bali Airport.
With the change I pay for the taxi to my hotel. Next day I change more money at a money changer in Kuta as I get a better rate than using the money changers at the Bali Airport.
