I think what we are all having is a discussion about going or not, just the same as any discussion on this forum about where to buy cheap bintang, or jewellery!!
I should be driving to the airport now to get on a plane to Bali. we are in the same position as you, leaving kids at home ect... My husband and I pulled the plug on our travel plans on Monday mainly because the next two weeks were meant to be about RELAXING after having had a stressful few months. Its a little sad to feel anxious and nervous about going on holidays- so we decided not to go!
We can go another time.I really do have a sense of relief making the decision, having spent the last few weeks swinging between going and not. Im not a "worry wart" as such, travelled through middle east, India,Eastern Bloc ect( when the wall was still up!!)in the past, took chances.....have been to Bali a few times before and loved it, so we will be going back. Another option to consider if you decide not to go now is transferring your booked holiday until next year. There is a minimal fee involved with your travel agent, and you will eventually be going to Bali!
And yes, something can happen next year when you go, but hey isnt life about "Sliding doors", one random choice setting off a series of events? For us the holiday to Bali was about unwinding and taking time out, and didnt want to comprimise that by feeling jittery and on guard. Only my humble opinion-- hope it helps?????
