I have stayed at both. The Melasti is good value for money and in a good location. The pool bar was good and we were in one of the rooms in the new building near reception and they was pretty large. The breakfast is similar to a lot of the hotels of this rating. A pretty good selection. I have also sayed at the Jayakata and was not impressed. The original room we were put in was so small there was no where to put your luggage and no where to put a kettle to boil water. We organised an upgrade at our expence to the junior suite which was $30 a night, While it was big it was pretty dated but did the job for the 10 days were were there. It was rated as a family hotel but there were not many other kids. Mostly europeans. The pool bar was never open , there was virtually not service around the pool and you could never get a lounge by the main pool. The restaurants were very very expensive compared to other hotel restaurants. They were virtually empty each night. They have a history of over booking and putting people up at other hotels. When we were there they over booked about 30 people. The staff were okay. They also had a series of thefts from the rooms. I have frinds who love this place but they just want a cheap place wehre they can laxe around. I like the location of the melasti. I have stayed at several place in bali since my first visit in 1990 and the Jayakarta is one place I would not go back to.
