Best thing is to avoid being bitten. We always spray the room in the last afternoon and then burn mozzie coils at dusk. Keep covered at night with clothing and sleep under a mozzie net. I don't think it is a good idea to use repellents on a 6 month old, they contain some pretty nasty chemicals, and babies do like to suck hands and feet.
