Had mixed reports on KL, but we loved it!!!
Spent 3 days seeing the sights.
Flogged the Monorail, you can purchase a MYR20 or MYR50 ticket which is valid for 6 months. If you are staying in KL for a week or longer than the MYR20 would be good value, we were constantly on and off the monorail for 3 days and we wouldn't have got the value out of purchasing 2 of the MYR20 tickets, most trips cost about 50 to 90c one way.
Trains run every 5mins - every city should have one!!!!
Also purchased a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus ticket MYR30?. Valid for 24hours and busses loop around a 22 stop sight seeing tour, get on and off as many times as you like.
Found a great 'eat street' near the Bukit Bingtang Station.
Loved the shopping!!! Better value/quality than Bali if you are after handbags, shoes, clothes.
Shopping Plaza's everywhere, even with theme parks inside.
Did a hot lap of Low Yat Plaza - 6 floors of electronics!!!
Flight to Surabaya uneventful.
No departure tax leaving KL? Was expecting to pay MYR40.
PLEASE NOTE: Allow maximum time for check in with Air Asia, people paying for extra luggage takes up alot of time. We had 15kgs each and were well within our allowance. We were the only 2 on the plane that weren't Malay or Indo and going by baggage alot use the cheap shopping in KL to buy household goods like Televisions/Rice Cookers etc.
Surabaya was not what we were expecting.
Didn't see another tourist in the 2 days we were there, no one spoke to us to ask if we want to buy anything or transport.
Shopping in local department store Ramanyana was cheaper than Bali.
Did a tour of Saporneo (sp) cigarette factory which blew us away!!! Teams of 6 ladies roll a minimum of 4000 ciggies a day!!! To watch them work you would swear someone had bumped a fast forward button somewhere.
Could report more but don't want to 'abuse' the forum.
Surabaya to Bali next....
happy to answer any questions :-)
