have a current motorbike licence here, you wont be able to get your international licence to ride one for there.
Please take everyone's advice seriously. Our friends had a dreadful accident when we were there in May. Luckily he had his international licence stating he was able to ride any motorbike (he has a big bike licence). The travel insurance wanted to see copies of his Aussie licence as well as international before they would consider covering them both. By the way BIMC is great to go to if you do injur yourself, they looked after our friends so well and the hospital is just awesome, nice rooms!
You can hire Scooters quite cheaply, we got ours for 25000rp per day including insurance.
Also take the insurance the bike hirer offers, the bike they had was pretty much a write off, and they only had to pay $300 to the owner as stated on the invoice.
