Hi there

We did our own thing to the Safari Park, organised a driver from outside out hotel, paid about RP150,000 for four of us. About a one hour drive via Denpasar and think we were at the park for about 3 hours. Everything about the park was so well run, (something that doesn't always happen in Bali) and I wish it had been around on previous trips when my children were younger.

There is a bird show which was quite entertaining, particularly as the birds are not tethered in any way and actually fly into the arena from within the park. Had the photo with the baby orang-utan which was the highlight of the visit for me - last year we were in Borneo and although we went to an orang-utan sanctuary we couldn't touch as they were being rehabilitated back into the wild. Did feel a bit of guilt that the little creature was being continuously passed around, but recalled when my children were babies and everyone wanted to have a cuddle (not quite the same I know). Did feel a bit concerned that the lion cub was so drowsy, I know all the other lions within the safari park were lazing around as well, so maybe this was quite normal but still a bit of doubt there.

If you have children they can buy some carrots and feed the elephants, ride a camel / pony / elephant, watch an elephant show (again a small amount of guilt that these wonderful creatures were performing for me) but probably better off there than being poached out in the wild. The safari trip itself takes about ½ an hour and was most entertaining, the animal enclosures are well set out and the animals seem well cared for. There is also a water park which we didn't visit as we were without kids, but would also be a lot of fun.

Had lunch in the big restaurant, nice food, very quick service and the toilets were clean and well maintained. Prices in the gift shop were very reasonable and on the whole a great day out for the entire family. Any other questions please feel free to ask.

Cheers,
CArol
