Im sure it would be cheaper to build than contract for 10 years. Although long contracts are common here. The first house I found and loved would only contract for a minimum of two years and I wasnt ready to commit to that as I wasnt sure about the area.

Somthing to take into consideration also is that Balinese houses need a lot more maintenance than back home. In 10 years your roof may need replacing - who is responsible, the owner or you?

Even in my one year contract in heavy rain the roof leaked - it was meant to be sorted by the landlord before I moved in and wasnt.... luckilly there hasnt been too many really heavy downpours this year but when there were the owner didnt want to know.

If and when I renew the contract I will be taking this into consideration. I am hoping he will cut the price a bit if I do the basic repairs that are needed on the house. Fingers crossed.
