If you are coming here to work for someone else they should be covering you for health insurance. Of course this is different if you have established your own company and this company is then sponsoring your KITAS.
You will not have to leave Indonesia annually to renew your KITAS so the Mastercard insurance will no longer be valid. If you check the rules that go with the Mastercard Insurance you will probably find that it is no good after being away for three months. Visa Card kept moving the goal posts for me.
You mention that you and your wife are waiting for your KITAS to come through. What about your 18 month old son? Don't forget to include him in there somewhere.
The Commonwealth Bank is not your only choice of banks. As a Kitas holder you can open a local bank account and then use internet banking to move money between the Indonesian bank and your Australian bank. You set your own daily transfer limit. There is a set fee per transfer. ANZ charges me $26 to transfer $5,000.
You can buy a whiz bang barbecue here but it will be more expensive than the one year house rental that Gemma has already mentioned. Tropical Pools and Spas have a large range of them.
It is a lot cheaper to make your own barbecue from a gas ring and a piece of steel plate.
The only thing that I have ever brought in from Australia is a Wiltshire Bar-B-Mate.
There is a very good butcher's shop situated at the rear of Pepito supermarket in Tuban.
