I have heard many stories of quick turnarounds due to lack of basic planning. Its better to make sure all the bases are covered than to go over underprepared, particularly with the immigration paperwork.

My best advice is to make contact with ex-pats currently living in Bali, (maybe guys like Bloodyron or DadVet on here can help you more with the finer points).
Once the odometer clicks over a few more miles I plan to retire in Bali, but to take a young family there and start a fresh.... wow....I am envious and I take my hat off to you.
