..stress won't be of very much help to you now. You already have the answer to your problem; 'obviously his health comes first'. It is the most important thing. Yes, skipping the travel insurance this time was unfortunate, but there is no use blaming yourself for it. Karma has nothing to do with it, you haven't 'done' anything. Karma is more of a guideline for your future, it comes from a word which means 'work'. You can 'fix' your Karma by taking care in THIS life, don't concern yourself with past lives, you can't change that any more.
So my advice is, accept the financial loss for now, what good would it do you guys to go and then as a result maybe never be able to travel together again??
I had a similar situation about 4 yrs ago: I was diagnosed with possible intestinal cancer, also about 2 months before an 8 week trip to Bali. In my case it all worked out, but I can appreciate the stress you are feeling. In the end it worked out OK for me. Maybe it will work out well for you guys also, who can say?? I'm not a praying sort of person, so all I can do is wish you a lot of strength and good fortune.
