Hi all
Returned from bali mid May and had the pleasure of doing a cooking school with Baik Bali as most know Wayan runs a cycle tour business but also runs other tours so this time my husband and i saved our bums the stress and decided to cook with Made as her food on the cycle tour at the eend is the highlight.
Wayan picked us up at 8.30am from ubud hotel a little gem he put us onto called Tungjung Mas Bungalows opposite Greenfields, arrived at his house and it was like being home again everyone makes you feel welcome.
The cooking course covers all the meals you eat on the bike ride a 9 course feast you can be as hands on as you want or just sit back and take it all in your choice all cooked village stylee over the smoked duck and chicken all cooked over hot coal fires they use the primus for all other cooking and cocoonut shells for heat for the satay ayam sticks Wayan or Made Or the two Ketuts will answer any questions you have .
This is certainly no 5 atar restuarant kitchen or utensils but for excellent insight and learning more about the Balinese lifestyle my husband and myself loved the experiance no frills and snotty people trying to be the best chef hahaha just us two of us and Wayan and his family back to basics and the end result 9 mouthwatering dishes i had helped to prepare and we sat down and Wayn said enjoy your meal NO way we said we are not eating without your family no no he says this is your food you have paid for this we said there is enough to feed ten not two please eat so we sat as a family group ate and chatted Wayan and my hubby went and got some Bintang as all good Balinese food deserves a binnie or two i am hooked on the nectar of the gods .
After our meal we had a look around the restuarant is almost ready he is making lots of improvments took us to show us his bookings board for next 6 months looks promising and he now sponsors an english teacher in his daughters school to give thechildren a better chance of paid employment later in life.
Great to see a local make good and give back to their community. for a local experience give the cooking school a go if you arn't a snob you will appreciate the effort put in with so few appliances and no fancy utensils and have a meal to die for ..

Sorry it was long winded but can't do it justice on one line

Trish
