I've travelled to Bali over 20 times and almost all these times my kids have travelled there too. We have never taken malaria tablets. Just make sure you use aerogaurd regularly, particularly at dawn and at dusk...not just at night time, as the mosquitoes also come out in the early hours of the morning too. It's best to use an aerogaurd with deet which is tropical resistant.
Also it's a good idea to give your rooms a spray with fly spray (mortein etc) before you go out to dinner, which will rid any mosquitoes which could be lurking in the room when you go to sleep.
Seek the advice of your doctor, and if you have a travel doctor in your area then they can best advise you. Make sure all vaccinations are up to date, including tetnus. And your doctor will advise you on all necessary injections for travelling to Bali.
Have a great trip!
