If you bring them back rolled...make sure they are rolled with the paint OUT as this seems to help stop the cracking that sometimes occurs with the oil paintings. However, I brought a lot of paintings both acrylic and oils rolled up last year with no problems.
I bought a big "Tabung" or document roll from the stationery shop at Bali Mal Galeria used this to bring the paintings home that would not fit inside my suitcase. However, most of the art shops will roll them for you and usually they wrap them in a protective roll of cardboard with a string handle to carry. I just had quite a few big paintings and it was easier to have them all inside the one big document roll.
When I got home I did not pay to have them professionally stretched on new frames - way too expensive for the cost of the paintings. I did it myself by buying cheap canvas boards from Crazy Clarks and a cheap art supply shop.
It can be difficult to get the same or close to same size as your paintings so for any paintings you are getting specially painted in Bali, check out the frame sizes available in the shops here before you go and get the paintings painted to the right size (allowing for the edges of the boards to be covered by the painting too).
Use a staple gun to fix the paintings over the canvas frame, keeping the corners folded neatly. I used a great hint given on this forum that spraying the back of the painting with water (lightly) helps to stretch the canvas easily and when it dries it leaves less chance of ripples. It works! My paintings look really good and the best part is they didn't cost very much so that when I am tired of them I can replace with something from the next Bali trip.
