The way around this is to get a 60 tourist visa which needs no sponsorship.
As of a few months back, both visas have the same number 211, Type B.
After your first 60 days you can then extend the visa on a monthly basis (up to 6 months) without leaving Indonesia. You will need a sponsor to help you extend the 60 day visa. Cost should only be 250,000 rupiah per month but it can cost up to 650,000 rupiah.
