It just goes to show how many years ago that aerial shot over Legian was taken, prior 2003....
We stayed there August 2003 and the pools and buildings were fully completed. I think rooms were occupied from June 03.
(I am looking forward to seeing Ubud from an aerial photo, sa its fully cloudy each time I look).
Gee I read somewhere recently what and why the allotment, large and beachfront remains vacant on the south side of MBR but I cant remember. Some bright person will recall I am certain. (They can have a prize!)
To ease your friends into Bali life, maybe suggest meeting them at Drops in Padma/Yudistira St. They walk out of the back of MBR turn right, walk to end of Padma Utara and turn left into Padma/Yudistira (Posers bar is on the corner and now heading away from the beach) and walk along 100 - 200 metres. If they reach crossroad, Jl Legian, go back. Take 5 - 10 minutes to walk there.

Another choice could be Bamboo Corner almost opposite back of MBR. Turn right and on left hand corner of the dog leg in Padma Utara, same side but before All Seasons Hotel.
Breeze in Jl Sahadewa, once they walk to end of Padma Utara, turn left, cross road and first right. Breeze is along 200 metres or so, still on beach side
Indo National is further along Padma/Yudistira, opposite side to Drops, just along a little further, Wayan and Friends is closer to beach on same side as Indo National.
