The import of tobacco, alcohol limits for eg remain as they apply on entering a country.
DennisC is correct the differnce now is you need to read the LAGS restrictions regarding liguids etc you are able to take on as CARRY ON LUGGAGE into the CABIN of the aircraft.
TNT's post is about correct regarding duty free purchase at the last point prior to boarding area - after immigration. They place items like alcohol, perfume in a duty free tamper proof bag. This is valid on a direct flight and NO TRANSIT.
If you have purchased anything prior this it needs to be in your CHECKED LUGGAGE that goes with the cargo - UNDER STORAGE & NOT CABIN.
I am no expert but just my experience last August we went to sooo many airports.
