Go early (9am weekend)10am during week and take bathers and towel.
Hands on with some animals.
There is an animal show, a few shops and cafe.
Lovely pool area too so you will want to swim afterwards and a couple of rides.
Not sure how well you know Bali but some other suggestions for the 13 year old is waterbom park, The Zoo, The Bird park, Elephant park, Quad bikes, Horseriding.Soccer on the beach with the locals.
But just wandering around taking everything in and shopping for watches and surf gear etc pleases alot of kids in Bali....I wouldn't call it boring.
If he has a nintendo ds take that and you can buy games in mataharis upstairs.
