Best to wait until you get there, change a little at Denpasar at the airport for your taxi ride or first drinks. You can change at money changes here in Australia and at banks but you will get a lower rate and have to pay a commission fee too.
Across the road from the Febris is a Kodak money changer, next door to a small supermarket, get your drinks and nibblies here and they also have a booth outside where they will help you set your mobile phone up for smsing/phoning home or for making calls whilst in Bali.
