We have stayed at the Kartika Plaza about 10 yrs ago and thought it was definitely 4 star at that time. We have since stayed at Four Seasons Jimbaran as a couple, which was gorgeous. Checked out their kids club (well equipped hut right on beach alongside the restaurant and all the catamarans which are free for guest use!!) which I think looked excellent and plenty for an 8 year old to do. (boy or girl?). We stayed at the Ritz Carlton cliff front villas last April which were superb. We took out two kids (20months & 6yrs) & it was great, but the kids club was abit average (hot, small room) however the Ritz villas were better than the 4 Seasons, as well as the dining at the Ritz was overall better. Having said that, I think general overall vibe of 4Seasons was superior. If you want 5 star (& make no mistake - you pay for it!) then these 2 are well worth considering.
