If they're excised under anaesthetic it mightn't be so painful, I suppose, speaking from the donor's point of view. The constant need for the Bakso's balls probably explains why most of them walk mincingly. When you think about it, the Baksos who manage to hang on to their family jewels must be very fertile, given the constant need for this delicacy.

You must draw the line somewhere and the idea of victimising the little fellas so that Hillary et al can slurp them through a straw is reprehensible; pinkie excercises or not. At least we should let them grow to the size where they can have a use or two of the dangly bits, before they are taken away for culinary purposes.

It is all very thought provoking, when you think about the fish who have the same problem, given the Indonesians' fetish for potency enhancement.

Could Haaris, our resident expert on cooking, give us some insight into this? Are the Baksos farmed or are they chased in the wild for their harvest of little tasty bits?

What a cruel world we live in-:)) -:))
