Hotels, alum kul kul & others

Hi Everyone
Has any one stayed at the Alum Kul Kul in the last year? It gets really mixed reveiws and as it is a bit of a treat at the start of our holiday I want it to be nice. Has anyone got a favourite that they would like to recommend.
We have stayed at the Padma, Pelangi,The Locka,All Seasons, Ramada Bali Bintang in the past.How does it rate compared to these?
Also anyone got any recommedations for somewhere to stay in Yogyakarta around the $70 mark close to the main shopping steets.
