Hi there,
I have brought back some larger pieces, rolled up.
We bought wood from Bunnings to make up the stretcher frame. Use a staple gun to staple the canvas onto the wood, its easier to use than nails, especially when you are trying to keep the canvas stretched. A staple gun will cost about $8 from the hardware shop.
Google this website for step by step instructions: art studio chalkboard, how to stretch a canvas. The most important part is to start with 4 staples at the middle of each piece of wood, and then work to the corners.
I have not had a problem with cracking, however, I did have one crease in a canvas. If you have a crease, wet down the back of the canvas with a wet cloth before stretching onto the wood. The crease will come out and the painting will look fantastic.
If you have any further questions, feel free to email me.
