A few people asked some questions about my JBR right down the page so here's a little more.
Peanut sauce
Is called Sambal Pecel, you can get mild or hot, there is a little label either red or green on the corner (no need to have to understand indonesian).
You break off an amount from the block and add some boiling water and mix until the consistency you want. The add to your chicken for sate or your salad for gado gado. It's great. I always declare at quarantine and have no probs.
The cost is around 5,000 rp and I usually have to buy 10 blocks for home use and a couple of other blocks for friends who love it.
You can get it in the food market in Ubud, down the stairs veer to the left and along that back wall. Or I found some in the supermarket at bali collection at Nusa Dua. Havent seen it in Kuta.
La Risso tailor
Lots of people on the forum like Dolphin or Aneka etc. It just depends I suppose on what works for you. I stumbled across la risso - just down from Santika and Febris on Jalan Kartika Plaza on Febris side of street and opposite the (recommended) Kodak money changer.
They are from Java, speak ok English and are really switched on about what you might want down to sleeve length, skirt with waist band or not, inside pocket on jacket (for girls such a luxury) etc. Really recommend them. Pak Heru is the boss, and the Budhi is the guy I usually get to do my measurements. The workmanship on suits is exquisite. Forget about anything not suit related though - not their speciality. I have a lot of suits from these guys - they are great.
They also have a good range of fabrics on site which I supplement sometimes with a visit to Alta Moda.
My son in West Papua
Its a private volunteering thing - the place - an orphanage and shelter for homeless people - isn't set up for volunteers. So he has to mandi with everyone else and eat the same food. So far I've had text messages saying he is a little homesick but enjoying himself. He'd reckons he'd love a real coffee and hot shower but he has managed to shave. He was told the kids all played basketball but once he arrived, and they found out he is soccer crazy, sepak boleh has been the order of the day. So he is happy about that. He is home in a few weeks. I am trying to work out now if I can wangle to get to Bali to meet him halfway on his journey home.
