We went to an Accor Vacation Club presentation and although we did not join we gained, for $48 admin fee, a four day stay at Mercure Kuta for our pains. We saved it for the last 4 days of our holiday last December and off we trotted.
So, alright I'm telling you that because since we got a nearly "freebie" we expected to get the cheapest room in house but the room was well beyond basic! It was the smallest hotel room I ever stayed in. We had to take turns to unpack because we couldn't both move around at the same time. Cupboard space practically non existent. We did joke that Brian could change channels on the TV with his toe while I made the coffee whilst both being still in bed.
Very thin walls giving rise to a very bad sleep and by morning a very grumpy Hillary. The breakfast was fine, buffet style. So, "what to do" we debated over breakfast. We could pay up and ask for an upgrade but really the Hotel lacked any Bali feel to us. In fact it felt like a Singapore hotel, which is fine if you happen to be in Singapore. The pool, rooftop, has a lovely view of Kuta beach but is very small if there were a couple of kids in there you'd have to wait your turn to swim I think.
Well, the answer was obivious so we strolled, well scurried really, up Poppies 1 to ask Made at Secret Garden if he had a room for us. He had. We packed. Back in Secret Garden and oh so happy in about 30 minutes flat.
We sat there beaming happily at each other with the last 3 days of our holiday saved.
