THIS IS A LOT LONGER THAN I THOUGHT APOLOGIES IN ADVANCE! AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY!
on feb 9th my boyfriend, myself and another couple headed to bali. for me it was my 5th time and the others
were bali virgins.
day one
i was up at 430am to get organised, while dennis (my boyfriend) stayed in bed until 5, we piled in and
off to the the airport we went. As we are all from adeliade we had to go via perth, but were told as we
were checking our luggage for an international flight - we had to arrive at the airport 2 hours before.
7am came and so did the start of our adventure in paradise! we had 4 hours in perth which was a bit of a hassle
but it went quick! we had a drink at the bar and witness a big commotion as someone had left a hand luggage bag
so - the fedral police were called. the owners of the bag were sitting about three meter away from it but didnt hear/
respond to security asking if anyone owned it..... oh well we had anoth flight to catch!
left perth at 12:50 and arrived 15 mins early in denpasar which was nice stepping off that plane and smelling
paradise was probably one of the best parts of my holiday... i thought FINALLY I AM BACK...
the excitment was shortly live as 10000 jumbo's had also arrived at the same time and it took us one and a
half hours to clear immigration! oh well we were there!
we eventually got the the the hotel (bounty) at 515pm and checked in.
firsts things first, as dennis had never been to bali or overseas before we thought we'd go for a quick wonder,
to check things out and get some supplies (soft drinks and water for our room). i gave him a little peep talk about
what to expect once walking out the hotel ie: boss, boss you want t-shirt, manicure? i plait your hair..... i also gave him
the run down on bargaining and saying no...... him being 26 and knowing everythin assured me that he could handle
it and knew what to do.... hahaha 5 mins later he own a pair of rubber thongs and had cream rubbed into his toes for
the cool price of 700,000 Rp - he could handle it alright!
when we got back to the hotel i had to ring my mum and tell the story (she is a seasoned bali goer) we both had a giggle.
we had dinner at a little restaurant on Jl legian nothing to flash but enjoyable - then off to the paddy's. i disappeared
back to the hotel as i had a thumping head ache and wanted some sleep, everyone else stayed out.
day two
the next moring up for breakie pretty basic selection but i enjoyed it anyway....thought we go for a walk check out
some of the shops - dennis stay in - not a very well boy! he blamed it on the bacon i blame it on the beam ($100aud worth the
night before - boys will be boys) we didnt do much else for the rest pf the day... jsut hung about around the pool.
day three
sobek white water rafting. we booked this though tour east and were very impressed with the price 400,000Rp for everything
the transfers bus was a bit run down with very uncomfortable seats which resulted in a very very sore butt! but it got us there
safe and sound. the rafting was so much more fun than i remember and our guide (Nako) was great lots of fun and very
helpful. we did the one with the 4m drop in it.... i was absolutely sh*tting my pants but once we had done it i wanted to do it
again. the food was great the 160 + stair not so great! all in the name of fun! i smacked myself in the face with the paddle it hurt like hell
i thought i lost my tooth to but just had a nasty cut!
for dinner we went to jimbyran bay - i am not a seafood eater infact i HATE seafood,,,,,,,,,,but............oh my god the grilled snapper
was amazing i really wanted to go back but we didnt get a chance!
day four
the Safari park...
what a day!!! i think it is fantastic that bali has a place like this.
those two little monkeys (orangatans) were so so cute i just wanted to take them home. they were so playful the
little one with it teady bear and the bigger one with everything he could see he kept grapping my hand and taking me
for walks it was so adorable.
the lion cubb was also great it was in a very playful mood yet would almost cuddle you aswell!
i TOTALLY agree with poeple that say the white tiger is drugged! i have been to the tiger temple in bangkok were the
tigers and fully awake and playful this one just layed there and moved a leg occasionally. we had lunch in the lion restaurant
which i didnt think was too expensive (by australian standards) i also thought the food was quite good quality.
in the afternoon we did a little bit of shopping, and then dennis and i ate at a restraunt on kuta beach "rosso vivo" this is something
to write home about...... (there was a storm going on out side) we were sitting at our table eating the garlic bread when
all of a sudden there was a very lound bang and screaming then the lights went out..... i looked at dennis thinking oh my
god what was that? not again! oh sh*t oh sh*t the staff were running around and looking out side... after 5 mins of probable
the most nerve racking time of my life the lights came back on and it turned out lightening had hit the power box or something...
breath a sigh or relief.... the meal was yummy.
Day five
i dont remember what we did in the morning but in the afternoon we went up to ubud and the monkey forest i thought this
would be a good idea as everyone else had never been near monkeys and its a fun-ish sort of thing to do...... well i will never
ever go again i was actually scared! those monkeys have gone crazy! two women got bitten while we were there and not just little
nips from little monkey, im talking from the big grandpa monkey with BIG FAT TEETH! we left shortly after arriving.
next stop Tanah lot.i wouldnt recommend doind Ubud then tanah lot it was such a long drive and at that time of day the traffic was terrible.
the sunset when we were there wasnt that good because it was overcast that day but it was still a magical sight. we had dinner there at one of the restaurants on the cliff VERY average food but very cheap with wonderful views.we had a bit of a laughwhen my friend got bitten on the foot
but a crab sitting at our table at the top of the clip
day six
this was valantines day. dennis and i had breakie at the hotel and set off shopping we had a session booked at the melasti day spa so
we had a bit of time to kill before three. i bought some of those beautiful plates that are everywhere that the moment and i must say they are looking very vey nice in my lounge room i also bought some of the nice homewears that are around. dennis bought a pair of nike from the
nike shop in kuta square which he is pretty chuffed with and the we made the executive decision to buy another suitcase!
we the walked from kuta squar to Jl melastic and to the day spa i cant remember who on the travel forum told me to go there BUT THANK-YOU THANK-YOU THANK-YOU. i had a hot stone massage, pedicure and facial and it was just devine. and so reasonable priced!
afterwards we met our friends and we to la lucciola's for dinner. it was bucketing down at this stage. walking from the car to the restaurant we were kneww deep in water (thank god i didnt waer the long white dress i was going to wear!) and the minute we stepped into the place the power went out - it added to the romance! the meal was scumptious and they gave us choccies! i didnt think it was over price either for the four of us including grog was 1,300000.
day seven
this was probably the best day we had! we did the quad biking! to anyone going DO IT! it was so so so so much fun it rained on the drive up there so it was muddy and dirty. the first 15 or so minutes i was so scared as i had never driven anything like that but once i got the hang of it it was so much fun.... up and down hills in the middle of no where going through the towns and kids would line the street trying to get high fives and you drove past! the guides were great too very helpful and chatty! when we got back to the hotels we showered and did a bit more shopping. i cant remember where though.... we hit the pool for the begining of a very long drunken night! the cocktails were good and paddy's was so much fun! on the way back to the hotel we stopped and had some drinks with the locals on the street! which was good and bad! i went for a ride on a scooter and had a great chat with them about life in general then we got maccas delivered just coz we could....when we got back to the hotel however i realise i was missing my purse which had the last of my cash in it! i had my purse when we were there coz i gave the scooter driver some money for taking me around..... so that was a bit disappointing but i was going to worry about it in the morning at this stage dennis had retired to bed with a bucket ( 4 liter OJ container) and i was cleaning up the vomit on the walls at 4 am have i alreadying mentioned boys will be boys?????!!!
day eight
we had breakies ( well i did dennis stayed in bed) and then i rang mum " mummy can i please have some more money" and sorted out that situation! 20 mins later i was ready to shop! i needed to get all the last minute things i wanted and one of my friends got a tattoo( MR DOLPHIN i would recommend to anyone) then it was time to pack :(. it didnt really take long but i hate doing it - it means the holiday is at an end! Dennis finally got up once i had finished packing (good timing) at 3pm i did yell at him a bit as i spent most of the last day by myself.... despite feeling a little seedy he wanted to get a few more things so off shopping we went again!
we got back to the hotel had a shower and checked out :( i was so so sad. we had dinner at bagas on poppies 2 which i was disappointed in not because of the food or anything but i wanted snapper again! after dinner we had once last wonder taking in the sights and smell and back to the hotel for pick up.
when we got the the airport it was frantic i looked like evryone was leaving! we did some duty free shopping i bought some arak not because i like arak i thing its foul but i absolutely love the bottle it was in once finished had a coffee and waited. when we went to the gate, i was told i couldnt have my arak coz it was more than 100ml..... now this is what gets me angry. it was bought at the duty free shop in the airport it was in a sealed bag and i didnt want the arak i wanted the bottle so i emptied the contents in the toilet and everyone was happy.... i just think ite funny that people could buy any grog before leaving coz they cant take it on the plane???? i thought duty free stuff was ok????
anyway we had the red eye flight i had had minimal sleep after my big night out and i was set to snuggle into my qantas pille and sleep till perth. now my next paragraph isnt meant to be rude and i hope i dont offend anyone (i am not a small girl myself) sp we are on the plane and in the seats behind us there were 3 people a rather large couple and another lady obviously the lady had complain about he seating arrangment and was moved after take off. so the larger couple had 3 seat to two people on a packed plane. so i recline my chair and instantly feel a tap on my shoulder. i turned around and was told in not a very nice way that i was to lift my chair back because he did not have enough room to be comfortable! i looked at the man didnt say anything and put the chair up and the women (wife) turns around and says the b**ch gave u a death look. the rest of my flight i was constantly knee'd in the back and failed to get ANY sleep....
the flight from perth to adelaide was different i was asleep before take off and woken up on landing!
overall i had a ball bali is an amazing place. qantas was great, the food was ok the weather was great, the people are beautiful.
my only complaints are :
*it took us 12 hours from front door to check in on the way there and 14 hours on the way home why cant adelaide have a direct flight? it is crazy air paradise had you there in 5 hours!
* the couple on the plane
* going back to work tomorrow
* the 12 months i have to wait to go back!
i hope i didnt bore you all, if anyone has questions ask and i'll be happy to answer.... anyone going soon HAVE A BLAST! anyone who has just gotten back THE BALI BLUE SUCK dont they?
sorry about my spelling i know its shocking and i have been writing this for the last 2 hours im tired!
peace!
