Apart from his work as head honcho at Bennoes he had also opened his own little warung for locals (with his brother I think). He was telling us it was a lot of hours working there during the day and Bennoes at night. But it would all be worth while because he wanted to give his children the best start in life and everything his parents had not been able to afford for him. Anyone who knew him will remember he knew about 6 words of spanish that he had picked up from cowboy films and he delighted in impressing the customers. When we there last year we asked for the bill in spanish and of course he did not have a clue. We all had a good laugh about it and gave him some spanish lessons which he loved. When Cath was not well he made sure she got exactly the food she wanted irrespective of whether it was on the menu and he was very considerate.
He was a lovely, caring and fun guy who will be missed by everyone who came into contact with him, but of course most of all by his family and friends. Heart also goes out to Barb the owner of Bennoes (and Pondok Ayu) who I know loves and cares for all her staff and will be very upset.
Sadly missed.
